USB--The Future of Peripheral Connectivity

USB, Universal Serial Bus, has become the interface-of-choice for connecting peripherals to desktop computers and, increasingly, workstations and servers. With vendor interoperability established It offers a flexible, localized serial I/O bus that allows connection of a dizzying number of external devices in many different topology configurations.

This presentation will introduce key components of the technology including topologies, speeds, transfers types, and protocol components.   The concepts of plug and play and user ease will be discussed.   Comparisons will be made with similar technologies and where they are appropriate based on design requirements.  The future of USB will also be addressed.

When we are done, you should have an understanding of the basics of the USB technology as well as key areas of the specification necessary for your applications should you consider or actually design with USB.
