Course Description

This course is designed for anyone who is concerned about the threats to information security inherent in today’s business environment. In this course you will gain a fundamental understanding of these threats, how they can impact your ability to accomplish your mission, and what can be done to protect your organization from them. You will gain a solid foundation in the basics of computer and network security, cryptography, identify pertinent threats and countermeasures, learn how to assess vulnerabilities within your organization’s IT environment, and learn the importance of implementing a good Security Policy.

 
   
Course Objectives

   As a result of the training, the student will be able to:

  • Understand and categorize the goals of information security
  • Be able to identify the critical components necessary for a good Security Policy
  • Understand terminology associated with information security, such as cipher, message digests, digital signatures, and Public Key Infrastructure
  • Be able to assess the effectiveness of different information security solutions in relationship to their business needs
  • Identify the differences between symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, hashing algorithms, message digests and digital signatures and their uses
  • Identify common cryptographic algorithms and their use
  • Understand the “Defense in Depth” concept and different ways in which it is implemented
