Course Description

Telecommunication networks have provided information transport essential to the success of our enterprises.  Although designed and optimized for voice, other services such as fax, video, short messaging and have been added to meet the expanding communication needs of organizations and individuals.  This course provides participants with a working understanding and appreciation of the features, functions and modern implementations of telecommunication networks.  All major market penetrations are discussed, concentrating on the universal goal of converging all applications  (voice, data, image, video…) onto one network and providing the appropriate quality-of-service for each.

  • Understand basic terminology and concepts and take the lead in telecom discussions.
  • Comprehend how telecommunications can be used most cost-effectively their business.
  • Recognize the goal of convergence and quality of service in modern telecom solutions.

  • Appreciate the functions associated with digital telephony.
  • Recognize the capabilities of and applications for T1/T3, SONET/SDH and BISDN.
  • Understand local-loop limitations and common solutions for broadband access.
