Course Length - 3 Days Lecture

Course Description

In this age of information, data communications plays the key role of moving information from where it is to where it is required, in a timely and secure fashion. Today, enterprises and individuals need to understand the basics of data-com to be able to derive maximum benefit for minimum cost. This course provides a discussion of the fundamentals of data communication and the key strategies developed to move information reliably and confidentially through the practical world. Presentations are anchored in actual implementations of data-com protocols such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, frame relay and the Internet and devices including switches and routers.

Course Objectives:
  • Possess a working knowledge of data communication concepts and terminology.
  • Understand the role and markets for circuit- and packet-switched networks.
  • Recognize common features and implementations of datacom protocols.
  • Be aware of the role of segments, packets, frames, bytes and bits in data com.
  • Comprehend the mechanisms and significance of the TCP/IP protocol suite.
  • Be able to keep up with the rapidly evolving advances in data communication.
  • Recognize the functions of routers and the challenge of building internetworks.
  • Distinguish between LAN and WAN solutions like Ethernet and Frame Relay.

Who Should Attend?
  • Non-technical personnel who desire to understand the business case, challenges and solutions for data communication in order to be able to implement and maximize the value of data-com within their organizations. (Line and staff management, contract and personnel supervisors, marketing and sales people, finance specialists…)
  • Technical personnel  will develop a fundamental  understanding of the mechanisms developed for data-com and the practical, cost-effective, implementations available to meet their needs over both local- and wide-areas. (Technical staff and managers, engineers, technicians, system administrators, newly-hired technical employees…)
