Print E-mail
Course Length - 3 Days

Course Description

Configuration management develops and maintains software integrity throughout the process of the entire software life cycle, including maintenance. Configuration management ensures that the correct version of each configuration item (e.g., requirements, documents, or modules) is incorporated into the appropriate configuration(s). This course introduces the attendees to a practical process for establishing and maintaining a configuration management program that meets their goals and information needs. It addresses all of the requirements of the CMMI-SW for configuration management and requirements management. The students develop key elements of a Configuration Management Plan (IEEE, ISO or EIA recommended format) during the class. Templates are provided for crating an implementation plan.

You Will Learn How To:
  • Build familiarity with the configuration management requirements of the CMMI-SW as well as the ISO 9000 quality standards
  • Practice the basic four vital skills of configuration management: configuration identification, change control, status accounting, and configuration audit
  • Develop configuration management plans and procedures
  • Establish and maintain a successful Configuration Control Board
  • Perform Functional and a Physical Configuration Audits
  • Manage the versions and the successful implementation of the baselined requirements throughout the life cycle

Who Should Attend?

This course is valuable for all personnel involved in the development or maintenance of IT-based systems, either as a practitioner or a manager. This includes staff with dedicated or mixed roles encompassing support, development, testing, configuration management, and quality assurance. This course would benefit anyone who controls versions of software products (documentation, code, data, etc.) or supervises or interfaces with those who do. Prior experience with configuration management is a plus, but it not required. An understanding of the basic software development process would be helpful.

Course Format

This course is 3 days of lecture and individual and group workshops. Information and skills taught in this course are presented in an interactive format. Real world examples are utilized to make the information relevant. It includes the practices recommended by the CMMI-SW and ISO 9001. The students develop key elements of a Configuration Management Plan (IEEE, ISO or EIA recommended format) during the class. The emphasis is on techniques that allow attendees to transition the skills learned in this workshop to their own work environments.
